Ethnics in Littoral and Obadalmatien

An ethnographic map of the provinces Littoral and Obadalmatien some time after the annexation by Austria-Bavaria.

Rebellion of the Slavic population was met by dividing the regions between multiple ethnic groups, whereby there was Romanic resettlement in the areas by Venetians, Friulians and the promoting of the Istro-Romanian language and culture. This divided the area in a Romanic and pro-Austrian group, which became the cultural elite, and a Slavic, more rural, middle class.

Slovenians and Croatian Serbs have also had a history of border disputes, and playing the two out against each other also gives advantages. The Austrian rulers gave the Slovenes, who were being pushed out of their own territory by the Romanics and the Bavarians, the prospect of a Slovenian Istria, causing some Slovenian resettlement into the Istrien-district and the north of the Obadalmatien province. 

The last change to complete the Austrian domination was to populate the areas with large numbers of Bavarians and Austrian Bavarians, who now mainly dominate large cities such as Triest (Trieste), Foikaberg (Monfalcone), Görz (Gorizia) and Gafers (Koper). Next to this there is also settlement of other Germanic peoples loyal to the empire, such as Goths.

Since I do not know much of the Bavarian language/dialect, there can be some mistakes here and there. Please don't be afraid to correct me.
